Background:	GATA4 is a transcriptional activator expressed in heart, intestine, liver, primative endoderm and gonads. It binds to the consensus sequence 5'-AGATAG-3' and regulates the expression of the HSP47/J6 gene in F9 cells. GATA4 acts as a transcriptional activator of ANF in cooperation with NKX2-5. Defects in GATA4 are the cause of atrial septal defect type 2 (ASD2).
